Dance can be an art, a ritual, or a recreation. Dance movements should be used to express emotions, moods, and ideas, tell a story, or simply be an experience that is pleasurable, exciting, or aesthetically valuable. As you embark on your journey into the dance world, it would be a good idea to familiarize yourself with the different dances so you can find which ones are better suited for you. Most people have heard the names of popular dances but are rarely aware of the great history that each dance has carried with it since its birth.

Ballroom dancing originated in England during the late 18th and early 19th century. Ballroom dance can be a social dance encouraging social interaction between dance partners, however, some people pursue ballroom dancing for the competitiveness. The word 'DanceSport' refers to competitive ballroom dancing.

Learning to dance can add excitement and enjoyment to your life in many ways:

   • You will spice up your social life by meeting new friends
   • You will have more fun at parties
   • You will get great exercise and live a healthier life
   • You will gain more self-confidence

In addition, dancing has brought many couples closer together, and has given them an interest and hobby they can enjoy together. Best of all, whether learning alone or with a partner, learning to dance is an investment in your future. Once you get started, you can dance for a lifetime. It's a knowledge and ability you'll always have!

No partner is necessary! Of course, you can take lessons with a partner, but many people take lessons on their own. If you choose to take lessons without a partner:

   • Your instructor will be your partner on private lessons
   • During group lessons, you'll be switching partners frequently
   • At practice parties, you'll dance with our expert instructors, as well as students of various levels

Absolutely not! Whether you are a complete beginner or have dance experience, the Ballroom Academy of Long Island has a program to fit your needs. We are experts in making sure that learning is easy and fun! Even if you've never danced a step in your life, we'll have you gliding across the floor in no time!

It's really easy! Just call us at (631) 335-4491 to schedule a no-obligation, introductory private lesson. During your introductory lesson, you'll be shown the basics of how to dance on time to music in several different dances. After your lesson, you will have a consultation session in which the future of your dancing will be discussed along with any questions you may have. You will then have the opportunity to enroll in one of our introductory programs, especially designed for new students.
